Third Annual Treasures of the Tidelands Festival Dates Announced

Georgetown County, SC - The Cultural Council of Georgetown County is pleased to announce the third annual Treasures of the Tidelands festival, April 25-May 3, 2008.

The 9-day celebration will feature a variety of events focusing on the performing and visuals arts of Georgetown County. Performances will be concentrated in two locations this year - on the historic Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church campus on Highway 17 the Waccamaw Neck and in Francis Marion Park overlooking the bay on Front Street in the City of Georgetown.

Several new events will be featured as well as many favorites from previous years. Some repeat events include: concerts by the CAAHO Singers and Indigo Choral Society, A Taste of Front Street, The Gullah Festival and much, much, more. The Cultural Council of Georgetown County has been the primary organizer since the event's inception in 2005.

In 2007, more than 8,000 people attended the various events, more 30% of them visitors from out of the area or out of the state. "This festival showcases the range and depth of artistic talent in Georgetown County," said Randy Gerber, Executive Director of the Cultural Council of Georgetown County. "Many of the performers and artists were born and nurtured here. Others, like myself, are "c'mers (come heres) as the Gullah say, who have moved here from other part of the country because of the attractiveness of this area." Individuals, organizations and groups that would like to promote themselves by performing at one or both of the showcases should contact the Cultural Council. Funding for the "Treasures of the Tidelands" has been made possible by the City of Georgetown and Georgetown County Accommodations Taxes, South Carolina Arts Commission and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.
